What Do Today’s Homebuyers Want in a Home?

Are you considering putting your home on the market?  If so, you may be interested in learning more about the features that home buyers are most interested in seeing in a home.  That way, you can get a better idea of whether or not your home will be a hot commodity or if it may take a little longer to sell.

Some of the items that today’s buyers are interested in having include:

  • An open and airy room layout
  • “His and hers” sinks in the master bathroom
  • Master suites with walk in closets
  • Solid surface or natural stone countertops
  • Modern appliances
  • Outside living space
  • Finished basements
  • Separate showers and tubs
  • Whirlpool tubs
  • Two-car garages

Of course, there are a number of other amenities that may be attractive to potential buyers as well.  For example, many are happy to see homes with fireplaces or with energy-efficient appliances.  For other home buyers, however, having these extras is not worth paying the extra cost.  Therefore, it is important to know your neighborhood before you add on these types of amenities.  In a neighborhood where no one has a pool, for example, having one may actually be a liability.  In a neighborhood where everyone has a pool, on the other hand, you may have a far more difficult time selling your home if yours doesn’t have one too.
